Genevieve Charlotte Dudevoir was born on Oct. 17, 1732 in Ft. Detroit when it was a part of New France. She was the daughter of Claude Dudevoir II (1694-1734) and Barbara Elisabeth "Barbe" Cardinal (1698-1778). Both of her parents were born in Montreal, New France (now Canada). Her father Claude died in Montreal, her mother, Barbara, in Detroit.
On July 13, 1751 in Detroit, New France , Genevieve married Charles Bonneau (1714-1784). They were married for about 22 years and are known to have had at least eight children.
Genevieve died in 1773 in/near Ft. Vincennes (then belonged to Great Britiain) at the age of about 41. She is buried in the Old Cathedral Cemetery located in Vincennes, Knox Co., Indiana. Genevieve's husband, Charles, died on Aud. 2, 1784, also in/near Ft. Vincennes at the age of 69. By that time, Ft. Vincennes belonged to the United States. He too, is buried in the Old Cathedral Cemetery. His name is on an old list of patriots buried there.
Their daughter, Anne Jeanne "Janne" (Bonneau) Dubois (1770-1800), was also buried in the Old Cathedral Cemetery when she died in 1800. Her grave site is one of the few remaining readable markers in this old and historic cemetery. There are approximately 4,000 early settlers and patriots of the Vincennes area who are buried in the Old Cathedral Cemetery, in graves that are not identifiable.
