John arrived with other English Quakers in Burlington, West New Jersey, in 1678. He is presumed to have been born in England. He purchased land in Nottingham (Burlington Co.) during the period 1680-1698. He married first to Mary Scholey on 31 Oct. 1680 in Nottingham. She died, reported after childbirth, in 1681 or 1682. John married second to Mary Groome on 16 Sep. 1685 in Byberry (Philadelphia Co.), PA. They had four children together

Mary was very likely the sister of Thomas and Peter Groome. She was probably born in England. At the time of her marriage to John Rogers (as his second wife), on 16 Sep. 1685 in Byberry, Philadelphia Co., PA, she was referred to as of Southampton, Bucks Co., PA. Her burial is recorded in the Chesterfield Monthly Meeting of Friends as having taken place on 12 mo. 13, 1692/93 (13 Feb. 1693). She is presumed to have died at her residence in Nottingham, Burlington Co., West New Jersey
