- [S6040] FindAGrave Old World, John Warren I 1525-1576.
John Warren, son of Robert and Margaret Warren, was born about 1525 in Wiston, now called Wissington, Suffolk, England. Robert was a farmer in Wiston. The name of John’s first wife is not known, but they must have been married about 1549. They probably had only one child, a son named John, in about 1550. The names of his sons indicate that his first wife died soon after the birth of her son, and that he soon married another unknown woman, and by her had two sons, John and Richard. It was a common practice at that time, to give the same name to two different sons, if they had different mothers, and call them the "older" and the "younger" or "middle". This second wife must have died before 1559, for he married third, on December 10, 1559, at Stoke Nayland, September 5, 1563, widow Christian Hinsman, who must have died soon after the marriage. John then married as his fourth wife, Agnes or Anne Howlett. They had one child, probably named Anne, for an Anne is named in his will. Agnes the mother was buried November 25, 1567, and John married fifth, January 30, 1569, widow Margaret Firmety Cole. John and Margaret also had one child, named Margaret, who died young. John was a farmer at Nayland, Suffolk. John wrote his will on April 21, 1576, died on the 22nd, and was buried in Nayland on the 23rd, at St. James’ churchyard.
