Eugene Clare "Gene" Battels of Mountain Home passed away Wednesday, Dec 24, 2008, at Baxter Regional Medical Center. A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Roller Funeral Home Chapel. Mr. Battels was born March 12, 1927, to Bernice and Clare Battels. He was a veteran of World War II and graduated in physics from Ohio State University. He worked as an electrical engineer, most recently for Lockheed Martin. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and outdoors-man. Survivors include his wife, Patricia Clark "Pat" Battels of Mountain Home; a son, Dr. Ralph Dr. Michelle Flemmings) Battels of New York; a daughter, Teresa Battels (Ed Bol) of Seattle; three stepdaughters, Robin (Brooks) Buchanan of North Carolina, Beth (Rano) Smith of Tennessee and Tracy Mitchell of Washington state; nine step-grandchildren, Nathan and Daniel Buchanan, Jennifer, Dr. Rachel, Holly and Kayla Smith and Taylor, Benjamin and Jason Mitchell; and a sister, Bonnie Griffin of Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother. Memorials may be made to Baxter County Animal Control Facility or The Salvation Army. Arrangements by Roller Funeral Home.
