Dr. Sebastian Paul Young, one of the best known medical men in Lunenburg County and distinguished for his brilliant scholastic career at Dalhousie University, passed away shortly after midnight Sunday night at his residence at New Germany. Death was due to a heart affliction.
The late Dr. Young was born at Petrie's Crossing, Newfoundland, thirty-seven years ago and after a career in the public schools of his native home came to Dalhousie University where his brilliant scholarship and outstanding talents won him the Rhodes Scholarship in 1920. Returning to Dalhousie in 1925 he completed his medical studies and following his graduation in 1926 took up practice in New Germnay where he has since resided.
Known throughout the entire countryside, his practice was an extensive one and he befriended many in the course of his ministrations. His sudden death is a distinct loss to the community in which he lived. For several years he was coroner in New Germany and presided over inquests and hearings which were of outstanding interest. Earlier in life he had suffered from rheumantic fever with a resultant heart condition. Sunday he was apparently in good health and was about in his car paying calls to his patients. Late Sunday night he was seized with the fatal attack and Dr. D.A. Campbell and Dr. C.A. Donkin of Bridgewater and Dr. Angus MacDonald of New Germany were called but shortly after midnight Dr. Young passed away.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Betty Young, and their daughter, Joan, residing at Boyles, Newfoundland; and two brothers, James Young of Young's Electrical Company, Augusta, Georgia; and William, manager of the Cross Trading and Steamship Company of Curling, Newfoundland.
