- [S11497] Smith, Brooke Yarbrough, Find a Grave - Ancestor (Yarbrough): ROGERS John Jr, (Name: SmithLC.com;), ROGERS John Jr 1687-1776.
John was the son of John Rogers Sr. and Mary Groome, who were married 16 Sep. 1685 in Byberry, Philadelphia Co., PA. His father came to Burlington, NJ, with the original Quaker immigrants in 1678, and settled in Nottingham, old Burlington Co., West Jersey, a few years later. John Jr. is presumed to have been born in Nottingham (now Hamilton Twp., Mercer Co.).
Under his father's 1698 will, John Rogers Jr. was to be apprenticed as a blacksmith. He was referred to as such in Mar. 1716/17, when he sold his father's plantation in Nottingham to Robert Pearson Jr. He subsequently married Martha Clayton, who is presumed to be the mother of his nine known children.
He was living in New Windsor Twp., Middlesex Co., by 1735, when he was elected constable. He is referred to, later in life, as a yeoman and farmer. He died, presumably at his residence in Windsor (now Mercer Co.), sometime between 6 Jan. 1769, when he made his will, and 10 Apr. 1776, when it was probated. If he survived to 1776, then he was 89 years old at death.

- [S8887] Smith, Brooke Yarbrough, Find a Grave - Ancestor (Yarbrough): GROOME Mary Rogers, (Name: SmithLC.com;), GROOME Mary Rogers.
Mary was very likely the sister of Thomas and Peter Groome. She was probably born in England. At the time of her marriage to John Rogers (as his second wife), on 16 Sep. 1685 in Byberry, Philadelphia Co., PA, she was referred to as of Southampton, Bucks Co., PA. Her burial is recorded in the Chesterfield Monthly Meeting of Friends as having taken place on 12 mo. 13, 1692/93 (13 Feb. 1693). She is presumed to have died at her residence in Nottingham, Burlington Co., West New Jersey

- [S11500] Smith, Brooke Yarbrough, Find a Grave - Ancestor (Yarbrough): CLAYTON Martha Rogers, (Name: SmithLC.com;), CLAYTON Martha Rogers 1695-1769.
Martha was the daughter of Quaker immigrants Matthew Clayton and Sybilla Buckworth of Nottingham Twp., old Burlington Co., West New Jersey (now Hamilton Twp., Mercer Co.). She was probably born there in the early 1690s, and possibly even after the death of her father in 1694. In 1715, she was named as a legatee in the will of widow Catharine Pearson of Nottingham. Martha might have been a ward or servant in the Pearson household.
Her marriage to John Rogers Sr. probably occurred sometime after Mar. 1716/17, since she did not sign a deed with him at that time. She is presumed to be the mother of his nine children. John and Martha are identified as former co-grantors of "Sybal's Plantation" (Martha's mother's property) in the 1727 will of Nathaniel Leonard.
