Donald J. Carmody, 79, of Newington, died Wednesday (November 21, 2001) at St. Francis Hospital, Hartford after a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of the late Mary (Denkovich) Carmody and Anne (Willis) Carmody.
Born in Butte, MT, Mr. Carmody lived in Avon before moving to Newington. He attended Hillyer Junior College and West Virginia Wesleyan and was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II, serving in Southeast Asia. Mr. Carmody retired in 1983 from Allstate Insurance Co., Farmington after 30 years of employment.
After his retirement, he volunteered at St. Francis Hospital and he was a member of St. Mary's Church, Newington.
He leaves his two daughters, Donna C. O'Leary and her husband John, Kathleen Smith and her husband Denison, all of Newington; his four grandchildren, Patrick and Mary O'Leary, Courtney and Kelly Smith; his brother, Francis Carmody of Old Lyme; his former wife and special friend, Shirley Hanlon of New Hartford.
His funeral services will be held Saturday, 9:45 a.m. from the Newington Memorial Funeral Home, 20 Bonair Ave., Newington, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Church. Interment, with Military Honors, will be in West Meadow Cemetery, Newington.
