George R. Hadlock, 78, who served as Judge of Probate Court from 1946 until 1957, died Friday at a Bar Harbor hospital after short illness. Judge Hadlock was a veteran of World War I serving as lieutenant on a submarine chaser out of the first Naval District Boston. He served as Hancock County registrar of deeds from 1919 until 1946 when he became Judge of Probate Court. He retired in 1957. Born at Islesford, July 21 1880, he was the son of Gilbert and Georgia (Tinker) Hadlock. The judge was a member of the Islesford Congregational Church and the Masonic Lodge of Ellsworth. Survivors are three sons, Elmer C. of San Francisco, Cal, Wendell S. of Rockland, and William E of Hartford Conn; three grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at the Islesford Congregrational Church Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock, with the Rev Neal Bousfield officiating. Bearers will be Irving Spurling, Frank Bartlett, Francis Fernald, and Ralph Bryant. Friends may call at the Fernald Funeral Home, Mt Desert, Saturday afternoon and evening. Burial will be in Hadlock Cemetery, Islesford.
