Charles H. Page, chief of the Charlottesville Fire Department since March 1942, was found dead early this afternoon in his parked automobile in a vacant lot near Radio Station WCHV.
Death was apparently by carbon monoxide poisoning. The motor of his automobile was still running when discovered and a hose led from the through a window into the automobile.
He was found by Police Chief J.E. Adams and Police Detective C.O. Durham about 1:15 PM.
The Chief, who first was employed by the city in 1903, did report for work this morning. An alarm was issued for him late this morning after he could set reached at home.
Chief Page owned the lot on which he was found and planed to build on the site.
His wife died a number of years ago.
He is survived by his son, Charles H. Page Jr, and a brother, Walter Page, also of Charlottesville, and a sister, Mrs W.W. Nofsinger of Roanoke.
