Funeral services for Ruth L. Gardner will be held on Saturday, Feb 5, 2011, in the Afton LDS Tabernacle at 1 p.m.
A viewing will take place form noon to 12:45 p.m. prior to services at the church.
Ruth Leona Ross Gardner returned to the loving arms of her Heavenly Father on Feb 1, 2011. She was born on June 26, 1923 in Crane, Mo to John and Leona Ross. She was the youngest of six children.
She married Scott Gardner on Feb. 16, 1944 and together they raised four children.
Ruth served and was honorably discharged form the U.S. Marine Corp during WWII and was proud of her service to her country.
Ruth was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in a variety of callings in the Relief Society and Children's Primary. She had a strong testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and shared it through her example of service and friendship.
Ruth is survived by her husband Scott; and children, David (Beth) Gardner; Dan (Wanda) Gardner; and Ann (Don) Retkowski, 12 grandchildren; and many great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings and son Steven Mark Gardner.
Ruth was buried in the Afton Cemetery following a service and military honors on Feb 5, 2011.

FORMER CRANE PEOPLE ANNOUNCE MARRIAGE OF DAUGHTER
Mr. and Mrs. John B Ross of Chowchilla, Calif., formerly of Crane, announce the recent marriage of their daughter, Ruth, to Corporal Scott Gardner of the marine corps. The couple was married in the base chapel at the marine corps base in San Diego, where they are both stationed.
Mrs. Gardner is now a private first class in the Marine Corps Women's Reserve and is at the present time a teletype operator at the base. She was graduated from the Chowchilla Union High School in 1942, and was employed at the shipyards in Richmond before her enlistment. Cpl. Gardner is the son of Mr. and Mrs. B. L. Gardner of Alton, Wyo., where he attended school. He was employed in California some time before enlisting in the marines, in which he has served the past two years and has had overseas duty. He is now in the motor patrol at the base in San Diego.
Mrs. Gardner is now making a short visit with her relatives and friends in Chowchilla.

FIGURE IN FLOOD BLOCKED GOLDEN WEDDING DIES
The emergency removal of Mrs Leona Estella Ross, 73 from her water surrounded home canceled a scheuled golden wedding celebration for which elaborate plans had been made.
This was disclosed today by relatives as plans were made for Mrs Ross' funeral, which will be held tomorrow in the Worden Chapel.
Mrs Ross and her husband, John Ross were married in 1905 in Crane MO. They moved from that city to Chowchilla in 1939 and had lived here since. Surviving are her husband; four sons, Othal Ross of San Francisco, Joe Ross of Chowchilla, Charles and John J Ross of Fresno; two daughters Mrs Sadie Brechhuhler of Fresno, and Mrs Ruth Gardner of Wyoming; two brothers, George Gipson of Missouri and Bert Gipson of Oklahoma; two sisters, Mrs Myrtle Massey and Mrs Ella Hood of Missouri; and 12 grandchildren.
