He attended schools in the Noble County area. On August 23, 1934, he went to Caldwell, Idaho with his sister Opal, his brother-in-law Bill Chrz and their children, Dorothy Jean, Bob, Jim and Roy. His father gave him some money so they would be able to make it to Idaho. He found employment there as a clerk and gas station attendant. Chester went to Salt Lake City, Utah on October 29, 1940 and joined the U. S. Navy. He was then sent to California. He was a 1st Class Electrician on submarines. He was aboard the U.S.S. Tang in the Formosa Straits, when his submarine sank. The U. S. reported the submarine was overdue and missing on October 25, 1944. One year and five months later they were declared dead. There were 80 men who perished and five men who were taken prisoner by the Japanese. The Tang had shot a torpedo and they think it circled back on them and hit the sub. Chester was probably in the area where the torpedo hit. His father was given his Purple Heart and certificate of Meritorious conduct of the Naval Service Unit Citation was also awarded. While Chester was stationed at Portsmouth, New Hampshire, he met Lillian Frances Murphy. They were to be married when he returned. They had a daughter, Patricia Christine, born September 13, 1944. He was at sea and did not get to meet his daughter. He is survived by his partner, Lillian Frances Murphy; his daughter, Patricia Christine Loveless; his father, George W. Loveless; four sisters, Launa Bass, Opal Chrz, Zella Aigner and Inabel Loveless; three brothers, Harlie, Wilber and Cecil Loveless. He also leaves behind many other family members and friends.
