Funeral service for Jefferson Henry Ridgdill, 56, Vista Palm Drive, Edgewater, who died peacefully Tuesday at Hospice Care Center, Port Orange, will be 10 a.m. Saturday at First Church of the Nazarene, with the Rev. Chuck Acheson officiating. Interment will follow in Edgewater-New Smyrna Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday at Settle-Wilder Chapel. Born in New Smyrna Beach, Jeff was a lifelong area resident. A 1967 graduate of New Smyrna Beach Senior High School, Jeff earned a bachelor's degree in education from the University of Central Florida and a master's degree in education from Nova University. Jeff taught history at LBJ Junior High School in Eau Gallie for the 1971-1972 school year. The years 1972 until 1974 saw him teaching history at Mainland High School, where he was also sponsor for the National Honor Society. From 1975 until his retirement in 2003, Jeff taught social studies, economics, government, law, and guitar, and sponsored the God First Always Club and the Surf Club at Spruce Creek High School, and was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene, New Smyrna Beach. Jeff was founder and past president of the New Smyrna Beach Fanatics Parrot Head Club, and a member of New Smyrna Beach Elks Lodge #1557. In 2003, Jeff was named a "Point of Light" by Governor Jeb Bush. This prestigious award recognized his exemplary service to the community. At age 16, Jeff started entertaining in the New Smyrna Beach area with his dad in a local band. He continued to delight audiences in the band "Wild Honey" until 2002. Jeff loved his family, music, history, his North Carolina mountain home, and helping others. He deeply loved God our Father who led him home on June 20, 2006, but his spirit lives on through his good works on earth. Survivors include his loving wife, Elaine; daughter, Angela Palmieri and her husband Sal, St. Augustine; stepson, Patrick Flug, Orlando; stepdaughter, Michelle Flug Cullen and her husband Ned, New York City; brother, Benjamin R. Ridgdill, Jr., Edgewater; sister, Rosemary Pavese and husband Anthony, Edgewater; grandchildren, Frank and Meredith Palmieri, St. Augustine, Jordan Flug, Orlando, and Aidan Cullen, New York City; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. He held a special place in his heart for Lois A. Ridgdill. Jeff was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin Rosier Ridgdill and Bertha Mae Goodrich Ridgdill.
