William Riley Salisbury was born on 21 Nov 1851 in Sanford, Broome Co, NY, the son of William Bentley Salisbury and Polly Hendry. He married Miss Jennie Barton circa 1885 in Windsor, Broome Co, NY, the daughter of Asel Barton and Adelia Miller. Riley and Jennie had seven children: Elbert LeRoy, twins Floyd and Florence, Albert, Walter, Sarah and Harriet. Jennie died on 09 May 1897 (possibly in childbirth, still investigating)in Windsor, Broome Co, NY, aged 31y. After Jennie's death the family was split up and Riley moved to Sanford, Broome Co, NY and worked on the farm of his brother John Salisbury, and then on other farms until his death. He never remarried and the children were not raised by family members. Riley died in 1921 presumably in Sanford, Broome Co, NY. *NOTE* Walter was adopted and his name changed to Clayton Walter Stevens ... Sarah was adopted and her name changed to Leona English ... Harriet was adopted and her name changed to Pauline Gransbury.
