  [S9456] Find a Grave: POINDEXTER Thomas 1675-1706, Thomas Poindexter. Thomas Poindexter was born about 1675 at Middle Plantation in York County, on his father's estate. He was the son of George Poindexter and his wife, Susanna. In 1680, the entire family moved to New Kent County, where his father built a plantation named Christ's Cross. Thomas grew up and was educated there. There is no definite proof that Thomas was the son of George Poindexter born in 1627. Some people claim he is the son of George Poindexter Jr. born about 1650. There is however, circumstantial evidence. His oldest children would seem to make him too old to be the son of George Jr. Also, he named his first daughter Susanna, which would be his mother's name. Most important, George Jr. had a son George, born about 1673, who was his heir. If Thomas was his son, Thomas would have been the oldest son and heir. About 1695, Thomas married Sarah, the daughter of David Crafford, a prominent Virginia planter. They continued to live in New Kent County, which was renamed Hanover County. Thomas & Sarah were the parents of five children.
