  [S6040] FindAGrave Old World, Edouard Poingdestre 1550-1622. Edouard Poingdestre was born about 1550 on the Isle of Jersey. His parents were John Poingdestre VIII and Mary de Hamptone. Edouard was the eldest surviving son of John Poindestre VIII, there were no doubt brothers older than he who died when they were young. He had a younger brother, John and a sister, Marguerite. The records of St. Saviour's parish tell that on January 17, 1562, Edouard married Marguerite, daughter of Clement Messervy, a jurat of the Royal Court, and Catherine Lempriere, a daughter of Thomas Lempriere, Bailiff of Jersey. From references, contemporary accounts and old records, one can see that Edouard was a man of education and convictions. He held the usual offices of constable of the parish and seigneur of the fief after the death of his father. He was also deacon of the parish, which office was an institution of the now prominent Calvinist religion. Apparently the Poingdestre family were complete adherents of the new religion. After the death of his first wife about 1605, he married his cousin, Pauline Ahier. This older couple had at least two sons, Jean and Thomas.
