Hanks, 85, of Edwardsville and formerly of Granite City, Ill. passed away at 2:30 a.m. on Monday, May 2, 2011 at University Nursing and Rehabilitation in Edwardsville. She was born September 13, 1925 in Dexter, Mo., a daughter of the late Jay and Clara (Randolph) Bryant. She was a retired florist and the owner and operator of Blumen Haus Flower Shop in Granite City for many years. Lala was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Edwardsville where she was active with the Women's Guild. She was also a member of Eastern Star and enjoyed gardening, flowers and cooking. She is survived by three daughters, Charlotte (Jeff) Swickard of Enterprise, Ala., Nancy (Gary) St. Ivany of Camdenton, Mo. and Cindy (Kelly) Hodges Jr. of Granite City; four grandchildren, Kirsti (Robby) Hardtwick, Amanda St. Ivany, Cassie Hodges and Jeff Hodges; two great-grandchildren, Addison Hardtwick and Kayleigh Phelps; and other extended family and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Hanks and one sister, Vernice Mullin. In celebration of her life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 591 Glen Crossing Road in Glen Carbon on Wednesday, May 4, 2011 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m., and funeral services will be held there on Thursday, May 5, 2011 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Diane C. Grohmann officiating.
