Michael "Mike" Lynn Barton, 43, of Evansville, Ind., formerly of Pinckneyville, passed away just after 3 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 9, 2013, as a result of a motorcycle accident near Carmi.
Michael was born Feb. 12, 1970, in Scott Air Force Base, to Linda S. (Runion) Foster and Gary P. Barton. He grew up in Pinckneyville.
He worked as a painter. He loved riding motorcycles and spending time on the computer. When he was younger he participated in D-Max bicycle racing and he was still very interested in bicycles and racing.
He served in the National Guard in the 1990's before enlisting in the U.S. Navy.
Survivors include his father and stepmother, Gary and Patsy Barton of Murphysboro; his mother, Linda Foster of West Frankfort; sons Hunter and Tanner; one brother, Gary Barton Jr. and his wife, Bobbi Barton of Pinckneyville; two sisters, Sherry Hill of Du Quoin and Angie Simpkins and her husband, Danny Simpkins, of Murphysboro; and several nieces and nephews.
His body will be cremated and memorial services will be at 6 p.m. today in Elm Street Baptist Church in Murphysboro, with the Rev. Charles Allen officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 6 p.m. today at the church.
