Notes: The cemetery was started by Ebenezer Eaton, minister of the Congregational Church, who "allowed his parishioners to lay their dead to rest on his dry, sunny hillside in what was then his field.
Notes: The paint on a sign that reads, "Old burying ground / first public cemetery / on Mount Desert Island.
