News (Fatality)-EDWARDS Mary (House Fire)
INVALID DIES IN HOUSE FIRE An elderly invalid perished in a Saturday morning fire that engulfed her home before firefighters could arrive to extinguish the blaze. Mary Anna Edwards, 85, Route 1, Box 118, Shiloh-Canaan Road, in Palmyra, died shortly after 8am. The position of her body indicated that Mrs Edwards lifted herself from her bed into her wheelchair to escape the fire. She was found in the wheelchair next to her bed. Mrs Edwards' granddaughter, Paula Nightwine, 22, and her young son, Wesley, escaped the burning house without injury by kicking out a bedroom window, said Montgomery County Sgt Milan Lewis. The fire was reported at 8:22 said Lewis. The Cunningham Volunteer Fire Department was notified and responded with 11 firefighters, assisted by six firefighters from the Montgomery County Rescue Squad, said Cunningham District Chief Robert Foulks.
