MAN CONFESSOR OF MYSTERY MURDER DIES AT DOE RUN • Elmer A Huff Who Committed Crime 30 Years Ago and Later Confessed; Passes Away at His Home. • Elmer Andrew Huff died at his home near Doe Run at the age of 58 years, and was laid to rest in the Doe Run cemetery, Tuesday afternoon. Some eight or ten years ago. Mr. Huff broke into the news, in a sort of sensational way, following his confession of his killing a neighbor some 30 years before, when a young man. According to the story at that time, young Huff had a grievance against a neighbor and hid along the road at night. When the neighbor came along horseback, he shot and killed him. The killing remained a mystery until the early 1930s, when Huff finally confessed his deed to members of the dead man's family and to officers. Huff was taken to the State Hospital at Farmington for observation and later was sentenced to a term in the state penitentiary upon his plea of guilty.
