News (Fatality)-MAYES Henry (Murder)
MURDER MOST FOUL • Henry Mayes Assassinated While Walking Along Road About Three Miles From Iron Mountain • Last Wednesday morning the dead body of Henry Mayes was found by his brother-in-law, Mr. Morris, in the middle of the Farmington and Pilot Knob road, about three miles from Iron Mountain. There were ten buckshot in his body - four entering just above the heart, five near the right nipple and one in the right arm. The dead man had a plow share in his arms at the time he was assassinated, which gave evidence of having been struck by several shot. Word was brought to Farmington soon after the body wns found, and the authorities not being able to communicate with Coroner Evans at Bonne Terre, Squire Wm H Young was sent to the place to conduct an inquest, and the jury returned a verdict that deceased came to his death from gunshot wounds inflicted by a gun in the hands of some unknown person.
