William H Whyte was born in the Irish Free State in 1859 and immigrated to America about 1875. In 1880, he was living with his father in Staten Island, and his name was still spelled White.
In 1886, he married Elizabeth "Lizzy" Flood, and they had five children that survived infancy: William Frederick (1889), Mary "Mae" (1890), Elizabeth (1893), Alberta Josephine (1901), and Harold "Henry" (1903), all with the name Whyte. In 1910, they were all living together on Staten Island.
Lizzie died in 1918, and in 1920, Elizabeth, Josephine and Harry were living with their widowed father, along with Mary and her husband Adolph Krieger and their two sons. Shortly thereafter, Elizabeth and Josephine married and moved out.
In 1922, William F Whyte wrote his will, leaving $1 each to his children: William Whyte, Elizabeth Durkin, Josephine Gebhardt, and Henry Whyte. He left the rest of his estate to his daughter, Mary Kreiger, with whom he lived until his passing in 1941.
