She was married to Paul Smith and was retired from Austin Peay State University after 36 years and spent most of her time there as the secretary of the music department. A resident of Clarksville, Norma was 67 years old when she passed away on May 27, 2017 at Saint Thomas West Hospital in Nashville. Survivors included her husband and several cousins.
