Killed in Action-KAROW Gustav

A large part of Savannah quit business and attended the funeral yesterday afternoon of Capt Gustav Karew USMC, killed in an airplane accident at Parris Island when Lieuts Fred Melthen and S E St George also met their death. ... He was a student at Princeton and then at VMI, graduating there. He began service with the marines as second lieutenant and was stationed at different times at Quantlco, San Diego, Hayti, Galveston, and New London. His promotion was rapid. He was on sick leave and had been reporting to Parris Island for treatment.
