Lucretia had three children: Elizabeth, William and Sarah. In 1829, William died when he was just two and a half years old. More tragedy struck the family the following year. After giving birth to Sarah, Lucretia became weaker and weaker. Sarah's birth became difficult, and the doctors were uncertain if Lucretia would survive. She died in 1830, leaving her husband to manage two children and a large farm by himself.
