Son and heir of John Vere and Alice Colbroke, grandson of Sir Robert de Vere (1410-1461) and Joan de Courtenay (1411-1465), Walter Colbroke and Jane Tresytheny. Direct descendant of Robert de Vere, Earl of Oxford and Isabel de Bolebec. Husband of Christian Foderingey, daughter of Thomas Foderingey of Brockley, Suffolk, by Elizabeth Doreward, daughter of William. They had no issue. Secondly, husband of Elizabeth Trussell 147545908, daughter of Edward Trussell of Elmesthorpe and Margaret, daughter of Sir John Dunn. John was knighted by King Henry VIII at Tournai after the Battle of the Spurs and appointed to attend the Field of the Cloth of Gold in 1520. John died at his manor on Colne, buried at the Castle Hedingham Priory. According a Castle representative: "Their tombs (the Veres) were mainly destroyed in the reformation, but a few survived and are spread throughout Essex. Amazingly the Tomb of John now resides in the church of St Nicholas, in our village Castle Hedingham, and it depicts his wife Elizabeth also. I believe their children are carved along the side panels too.
