James D. Sumner, 78, Cadiz, died at 2:59 a.m. Friday, Jan. 19, 2018, at Jennie Stuart Medical Center of natural causes.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Goodwin Funeral Home, Inc. with the Rev. Geoff Baggett officiating.
Burial with full military honors will be at a later date in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery-West.
Visitation will be from noon until the service time Sunday at the funeral home.
A native of Trigg County, he was born Dec. 20, 1939, the son of the late James Woodson and Myra Lorraine Thomas Sumner. He graduated from Western Kentucky University with a degree in agriculture. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He retired for Tolibia Cheese in Fond du Lac, Wisc., and worked on his family farm in Trigg County. He was a member of the Thomas Bridges Association, serving as vice president and was a charter member and treasurer of the Col. Stephen Trigg Chapter Sons of the American Revolution. He received the 2001 Outstanding Farmer Award from the Trigg County Conservation District and the 2004 Farming for the Future "Outstanding Conservationist" Award from Woodmen of the World. His family farm was recognized in 2012 as a Kentucky Centennial Farm. In 2014, he was the recipient of the Conservation Award from the James Thomas Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Margery "Marge" Doom Sumner, Cadiz; his son, James Thomas Sumner, Nashville; his daughter, Lisa (Peter) Guse, Murfreesboro, Tenn.; his sisters, Sue Sumner, Cadiz and Juanita (William "Willie") Pewitt, Franklin, Tenn.; and two grandchildren.

Margery Doom Sumner, 81, of Murfreesboro, Tenn., formerly of Cadiz, passed away Monday, November 15, 2021, at The Rutherford in Murfreesboro.
She is survived by her son, James Thomas Sumner; her daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Peter Guse; three sisters, Martha Doom Maxfield, Hazel Doom Guess, and Shirley Doom Smith; two granddaughters and a number of nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be Monday, November 22, 2021, at noon, at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West in Hopkinsville, with Rev. Norman Cotton officiating.
