Fire Resorted to in Order to Cover Evidence of the Crime. ROBBERY THE OBJECT. On Monday June the 24th Benjamin H. Collins and his five-year-old son were found dead at their home in Bowlan township, this county, and about fifteen miles from this place. News reached here at ten o'clock in the morning. Mr. D.C. Reed and J.B. Searcey, J.P., of this township, accompanied by Felix Rucker, constable, repaired to the scene of carnage. Upon investigation it was found that Mr. Collins had been shot three times; one ball entering the top of the head, on the left side, coming out at his left ear, another shot taking effect about two inches behind the left ear and two inches below the other bullet hole, and appearances indicated that another bullet had entered where the head and neck are joined together. The little boy had been killed while in bed: his skull being crushed with a stick of pine about fifteen inches long. A lamp, containing kerosine, had been broken and the contents poured over the bed, which was set on fire, the bed and a part of the bedding, together with the front railing of the bedstead were consumed, when the fire went out with out doing further harm. . . . https://www.newspapers.com/article/current-wave/155926266/?xid=637
