He was married 1st in May 1881 to Laura Belle Martin (1861-1904), and they had a large family. Alex was married 2nd on May 18, 1905 in Clarksville to Viola Morrison 91880-1908), and his 3rd marriage was on November 21, 1909 in Clarksville to Mary E Kirksey (1886-1968), the daughter of George W Kirksey (1863–1917) and Sally (Martin) Kirksey (1864-1935).

A farmer, Alex passed away on February 21, 1931 in Clarksville, Rural Route 6 and [although his Death Certificate lists his place of burial as Macedonia Cemetery] he was buried in what became Alex Yarbrough Cemetery.
