Services will be conducted tomorrow at 11 AM in the Ivers & Alcorn Funeral Chapel for Mark C. Cathey, 66, who died here Wednesday following a short illness. Burial will be in Merced Cemetery.
Cathey was a grandson of Andrew Cathey, who came to California for gold in 1849 and for whom Cathey Valley, Mariposa County, was named. He returned to his home state of Arkansas and brought his family to Califoria in 1852. They settled in the valley which now bears his name.
Mark Cathey, the son of William and Ida Duncan Cathey, was born in Jerseydale, Mariposa County.
For a quarter of a century he was employed by the United States Forest Service and Yosemite National Park. For the past several years he had resided in Richmond.
He leaves his widow, Pansy; four daughters, Mrs. Fern Ross and Mrs. Wanda Ross, of Fresno, Mrs. Betty McRee of Chowchilla, Madera County, and Mrs. Patricia Campbell of Oakland; a brother, Andrew Cathey of San Jose, two sisters, Mrs. Mary Scott of Mariposa, Mariposa County, and Mrs. Birdie Watson of Santa Cruz, and eight grandchildren.
