MW Sanderson, former sheriff, died Friday in Memorial Hospital. His death was attributed to Injuries suffered in a traffic accident on December 16.
Funeral services will be held Sunday at Murphy Chapel. The Rev John Laida and the Rev HA Hamby will officiate and burial will be in Greenwood cemetery. Mr Sanderson was a lifelong resident of Clarksville, son of the the late Benjamin Franklin Sanderson and Araminto Harrison Sanderson.
He served eight years as Montgomery county sheriff. He was first elected in 1944 and served two years. In 1948 he was again elected sheriff and served three two-year terms.
Mr Sanderson was also a former member of Montgomery county quarterly court, served seven years as sanitary inspector for the Montgomery county health department, and was with the Title Division of the State for several years. He was a member of the First Baptist church.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs Gertrude Turner Sanderson; two daughters, Mrs Ashley Dabbs of this city and Mrs James (Booster) Moore of Nashville; two grandchildren, Ashley C Dabbs Jr of Clarksville and Mrs Rachel Loggins Dorris of Nashville, and two sisters, Mrs Callie Minnehan and Mrs Viola Foster, both of Clarksville.
Active pallbearers will be Hillard Dabbs, Robert Sykes, Joseph Slate, John Hancock, Ray Harris and Harry Dunn. Honorary pallbearer will be Drs HL Durrett, Bryce F Runyon, John Ledbetter, WG Lyle, Pat Edwards, Frank J Malone Jr, Gov Frank Clement, James C Cunningham, Halbert Harvill, Noel Bagwell, Lawrence McMillan, Walton N Smith, Matt Lynch, Frank Riley, Oscar L Rankin, George Stanflll, Charlie Vaden, Foard Harris, William Edmondson, Jim Biggers, Charlie Crow and HW Smith.
