Rose Sullivan Vaughn, 86, of Clarksville, TN, passed away on Wednesday, April 18, 2012 surrounded by her family. She was born on April 15, 1926 in Bowling Green, KY to the late Paul Sullivan and Teresa Spugnardi Sullivan. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bryan Russell Vaughn; a brother, Paul Sullivan; and a sister, Mary C. Cassady.
Visitation with the family will be held Tuesday, April 24, 2012 from 4-7PM at Neal-Tarpley-Parchman Funeral Home. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at 10AM at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Father Charles Matthew, Father Eric Fowlkes and Deacon Dominick Azzara officiating, followed by burial in Greenwood Cemetery.
An exceptionally gentle woman, she was a person of great strength of character. Her devotion to her family, friends and community is her legacy. While in high school, she was a accomplished student and cheerleader. After high school, she began her career in professional banking, marrying her life-long love following WWII. She enjoyed big band music, dancing, cooking and was an avid bridge player.
She is survived by a daughter, Cecelia Vaughn O'Neal (Timothy) of Lexington, MA; a son, Tom Vaughn (Peggy) of Clarksville, TN; four grandchildren, Bryan Vaughn (Brigitte), Jennifer Vaughn, Ashley O'Neal and Albert Vaughn; three brothers, John L. Sullivan of Fayetteville, NC, Francis (Pete) Sullivan, of Tallahassee, FL, Gerald (Jerry) Sullivan of Columbia, TN.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Bryan R. and Rose S. Vaughn Nursing Scholarship at Austin Peay State University, 601 College St., Clarksville, TN 37044. T-Sgt John T Vaughn 23, Clarksville TN, was instantly killed Thursday morning during a huge air demonstration at the Pine Castle Army Air Field when a five-inch high velocity aircraft rocket was accidently discharged from an A-26 airplane. Vaughn wa decapitated when the rocket tore through both engine and the fuselage of another A-24 about 100 yards away and continued another 71 yards to strike the youth who was standing fire guard on a third A-26 plane. Vaughn was assigned here about two weeks ago from Eglin field and performed the duties of a groundcrew chief here. His mother, Fannie B Vaughn, lives at Rt 4 in Clarksville. The body will be shipped to his home today and will be accompanied by T-Sgt Clair E Craplin.

Mr Vaughn was born in Montgomery County Feb 7, 1898, son of the late Thomas J and Leona Shelby Vaughn.
Survivors are his widow, Mrs. Fannie Bagby Vaughn; six sons, Carnell, Charles, Dorman D., Ray, and Larry Vaughn, all of Clarksville; Bryan R. Vaughn, Manchester, Tenn.; a daughter, Mrs. James A. Stokes, Orlando, Fla.; a brother, Lonnie Vaughn, Clarksville; two sisters, Mrs. Elliott Smith and Mrs. Clarence Bryant, Clarksville; 19 grandchildren.
He was a member of New Providence Baptist Church. Pallbearers will be WJ Souza, Levi Simpson, Billy Bryant, Tommy Roe, Joel Plummer, Paul Goostree, Rufus Johnson Jr, and James D Hamilton.

Survivors include five sons, Dorman D Vaughn, Ray Vaughn and Charles E Vaughn, all of Clarksville, Bryan "Billy" Vaughn, Manchester, and Larry Vaughn, Orlando FL; a daughter, Ruth Stokes, Groveland FL; two sisters, Bessie Randolph, Davidson MI, and Reva Backus, Frostproof FL; 20 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Memorials may be made to New Providence Baptist Church.
