  _Eleanor of Alburquerque Eleanor of Alburquerque (1374 – 16 Dec 1435) was a Castilian noblewoman, Countess of Alburquerque, became who Queen of Aragon by her marriage to Ferdinand I of Aragon. She was the regent of Aragon during the absence of her son the king in 1420.

  [S5606] FindAGrave Old World - Cenotaph, Eleanor of Alburquerque 1374-1435 (Cenotaph). Also known as Leonor Urraca de Castilla, Eleanor was born in Aldeadávila de la Ribera to Sancho Alfonso, 1st Count of Alburquerque, and Beatrice of Portugal. She became the 3rd Countess of Alburquerque. She married Ferdinand (Fernando) I in 1394. They had seven children and became King and Queen of Aragon in 1412. After Ferdinand died in 1416, she retired to the Royal Palace at Madina del Campo, his birthplace, which she converted to the Convent of Santa María la Real. She died there almost twenty years after Ferdinand's death. Gravesite Details Her effigy is beside Ferdinand's in the Poblet Monestery but there is also a marker for her in the Convent of Santa María la Real.
