The preliminary trial of Mrs Hattie Simms, charged with the murder of her husband, Joe Simms, will be held before Justice of the Peace D A Walker, Monday afternoon, January 8th. Christmas morning four shots rang out in a room in the New Exchange hotel. Guests rushed up stairs to find the lifeless body of Joe B Simms lying near the stairway in the hall with a bullet through the heart. Mrs Simms, wife of the dead man, ran down in the lobby and fainted. Several ugly gashes on the woman’s neck were found Mrs Simms was taken to a sanitarium, but was later removed to the county jail. Bond in the sum of $2,0OO was arranged by Judge Walker and she was taken to the Exchange hotel. She has been confined to her room since the tragedy. A brother and other relatives of Lehigh, Oklahoma, arrived and have rendered the woman every assistance possible. The family is said to be very prominent in Oklahoma.
