"S SGT US ARMY WORLD WAR II" Asheville - John Stanley Kemp, of Oxford Commons at Givens Estates, passed away on Tuesday, August, 17, 2010. Born in New York in 1919, he was the son of Margaret Dempsey and Philip William Kemp. He is survived by his wife, Gail Story Opp; son, Peter J. Kemp and wife, Sue H.; daughter, Pamela Ann Monaco and husband, Michael; as well as four grandchildren. As a young man, John Kemp served in the U.S. Army as a member of the Signal Corps of the 5th Army Headquarters in Italy for three years, after having taken part in the invasion at Anzio Beach Head. After returning to the U.S., he was employed by Otis Elevator, where he worked for 42 years as Regional Sales Director for the North East United States. A memorial service will be held for Mr. Kemp at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 28, at the Givens Chapel.
