Mrs. Harriet C. Senter, widow of the late Governor D. W. C. Senter, died at her home a few miles west of Morristown, Sunday afternoon at 5 o'clock. She was aged 75 years and had been in feeble heath for a year or ore.
Governor Senter preceded his wife to the beyond by seventeen years. He was elected governor in the late sixties. He was a member of the senate, and then in 1869 was elected to a full term. There have been but two republican governors in Tennessee since him. Governor Alvin Hawkins and Governor Ben W. Hooper.
Prior to her marriage, Mrs. Senter was Miss Harriet Canby [sic], daughter of P. M. Senter, of Rutledge, and was a cousin of the governor. She is survived by one sister, two nieces and four nephews. The sister is Mrs. Joseph Coggins, of California. The nieces are Mrs. Stanley Mullins, of Morristown, and Mrs. W. C. Peck, of Knoxville. The nephews are J. M. Grove, of Rutledge; P. S. Grove, of Morristown; Walter Grove, of San Jose, Calif., and George D. Manley, of New Market.
Since the death of her husband, Mrs. Senter has been living at the old place, where P. S. Grove and Mrs. Ethel Manley, a nephew and niece lived with her. She was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church a gentle, kind-hearted Christian woman, and greatly esteemed by all who knew her.
The funeral occurred Tuesday morning, appropriate services being held at the residence, conducted by Revs. M. M. Murrell and W. C. Hicks. The remains were interred by the grave of her husband in the Morristown cemetery."
