Ben Taylor Bogard is the son of William Jefferson Bogard and Abigail (Ezell) Bogard. He was a farmer and a widower when he died in 1923.
Civil War veteran, he served as a private in the 8th Kentucky Mounted Infantry, C.S.A., although his service record is filed in the records of the 8th Kentucky Cavalry, C.S.A. At the conclusion of the war, he surrendered at Fort Donelson and took the oath of allegiance to the United States at Nashville, Tennessee on May 19, 1865. Federal records describe him as having a fair complexion, dark hair, hazel eyes, being 5' 11" tall, and a resident of Stewart County, Tennessee.
