- [S4351] Tributes: Obituary of John Kiernan • Jun 2016, (Name: Anderson-McQueen Funeral Home; Location: St Petersburg FL; Date: 16 Jun 2016;), John David Kiernan -- Published by Tampa Bay Times from Jun. 16 to Jun. 17, 2016.
KIERNAN, John David
69, of St. Petersburg, passed away June 13, 2016 at his home. Born in Tallahassee, John spent most of his life in St. Petersburg after his parents settled here at the end of World War II. He graduated from Bishop Barry High School (now St. Petersburg Catholic High School), Spring Hill College (B.A.), and Florida State University College of Law (J.D.). After his admission to the Florida Bar in 1971, John began practicing law in St. Petersburg with his father, Thomas V. Kiernan, at the firm of Kiernan & Reams. In 1985, John joined the firm of Harris, Barrett, Mann & Dew, L.L.P. where he became a Partner, and in 1999, he joined the firm Abbey Adams as a Partner. As a young man, John was an excellent baseball player. When his playing days ended, he continued to follow not only major league teams and players, but also the athletic careers of family and friends, and their children.
John enjoyed practicing law and sharing his knowledge of the law with others. He particularly loved spending time with family, fishing, the occasional trip to Vegas, and cheering on his FSU Seminoles. While John abided by many of Murphy's Laws, he regularly employed humor to overcome difficult circumstances. He had a sharp wit and loved to hear or tell a good story.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Mary Kiernan. He is survived by his wife, Jane; sons, Thomas, John (Joye), Patrick (Stephanie); his stepdaughters, Suzanne Case (David) and Cynthia Hilton (Russell); grandchildren Kelcy Kiernan, Kinsley Kiernan, Ryan Case, Meghan Hilton, and Emma Hilton; his siblings Elizabeth, Thomas, James, Michael, and Timothy; and many nieces and nephews. John's service will be held at 4 pm, Saturday, June 18 at Anderson-McQueen Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the National Kidney Foundation
