Tomb-deVERE Hawise and Hugh (Effigy)
4th Earl of Oxford born to Robert de Vere and Isabel de Bolebec. He married Hawise de Quincy in 1222.Thru his mother he was also called Baron de Bolebec in Feb. 1245. He held the office of Lord Great Chamberlain (ENGLAND). Father of Isabel de Vere, Laura de Vere, Margaret de Vere and Robert de Vere, 5th Earl of Oxford. After the Dissolution of the Monasteries in the 16th century, the Crown granted the priory to John de Vere, 15th Earl of Oxford, and the buildings were adapted as the manor house of Earls Colne and Colne Priory manors. The surviving tombs at Colne, some with effigies, were removed in the 1930s to St Stephen's Chapel near Bures, Suffolk.
