Our Family's Journey Through Time
(originally known as the City Cemetery)
Clarksville, Montgomery, Tennessee
Find a Grave: #17796
Riverview Cemetery, Clarksville, Montgomery County, Tennessee, USA
Notes: Revolutionary War soldier and Clarksville/Montgomery County pioneer and Indian attack survivor, Colonel Valentine Sevier, donated the land for the cemetery and his was the first burial that took place there. You can see his vertical gravestone left of the center of the 4 main entrance posts, just above the left edge of the stacked stone retaining wall. Nearby and to the left of his gravestone you can see the shorter, leaning, dark wood post that is believed to be the original marker for his exact burial location. The tall gravestone and the small 'Patriot' marker beside it were placed in the cemetery by the D.A.R. Valentine's brother, John Sevier, was Tennessee's 1st Governor, and the city of Sevierville is named after him.
We make every effort to document our research. There is a lot of information that I do not have, and I know there are mistakes in this tree. My feelings will not be hurt if you give me corrections or additional information, especially if you can provide sources for the information.
