History-RICHARDSON Stephen (Descendants)
Lady Jane Montgomery was a member of one of the leading Scots families who settled in the Ulster area of northern Ireland during the 17th century Plantation period. Around 1729-30, she eloped with her father's ostler, Stephen Richardson, who was possibly an English soldier. Facing the ire of her family and the potential consequences of seditious activities in which he and his brother Hugh had been involved, Stephen and Jane decided that emigration to the colonies might be a wise course.
