Our Family's Journey Through Time

Daughters of the American Revolution

Benjamin Sperling, Sr.

Dianne is the 5th Great-Granddaughter of Benjamin Sperling (Spurling), Sr.

During the Revolutionary War, he served as a Corporal under Captain Daniel Sullivan.

During the War of 1812, Benjamin was captured by the British at Norwood's Cove and later released. His famous command to his son during the Battle of Norwood's Cove, when the British held him prisoner in the bottom of one of their boats, has made him one of Maine's heroes. "Never mind me, Rob," he shouted, "I'm an old man; but give it to those dashed Britishers as hard as you can!"

We make every effort to document our research. There is a lot of information that I do not have, and I know there are mistakes in this tree. My feelings will not be hurt if you give me corrections or additional information, especially if you can provide sources for the information.
