Our Family's Journey Through Time
Patrick Joseph Twomey was born in 1755 in County Cork Ireland. In 1775, Ireland's economy was stifled by British trade restrictions, so Patrick, like many of his countrymen decided to leave Ireland for America.
Like
many of his countrymen, Patrick gained passage to the new world as an indentured servant. He was indentured as a miller to Charles Reed in Chester County, Pennsylvania. We do not know when his indenture was supposed to expire, but we do know that he attempted to escape at least twice, succeeding in 1777. He headed eastward, using the American Revolution to help cover his tracks, and then went south, settling in North Carolina.
In 1779, Patrick married Margaret Barrett. Together, they had at least 11 known children. When Margaret died in 1820, Patrick married Elizabeth Cowell Robinson, and they had at least one child. Pactrick died two centuries ago, in August 1825, in Rowan County, North Carolina.
We make every effort to document our research. There is a lot of information that I do not have, and I know there are mistakes in this tree. My feelings will not be hurt if you give me corrections or additional information, especially if you can provide sources for the information.
